Biography work is an active practice of developing self knowledge and understanding the growth process in the human being. It aims to awaken a living imagination of what it means to be human and to bring an awareness of the laws and rhythms of biographical development. At the heart of this work is discovering that life is a continuous process of metamorphosis, out of which meaning may be found and trust in existence may arise.
Join me for a deep and comprehensive dive into a perspective of human development through the lens of Rudolf Steiner that includes body, soul and spirit. Alongside this immersion into human development from birth to 84 years of age, we will explore our own biographies through simple artistic exercises and discussions.
Objectives:
Personal development of the therapist.
Present Rudolf Steiner’s educational theory on human development from birth to the age of 84.
Create a foundational and comprehensive container of human development to be available for you when working with clients.
Grow appreciation of how clients are seated in their own biography and how that colors their coping capabilities.
Gain varied experiences of using art and its therapeutic effect on the human being.
Experience symbolism, metaphor and imagery as tools to objectify life experiences.
Bring a bird's eye perspective to the totality of this sacred human life.
Nourish, support and inspire the therapist.
This series is a cumulative experience where each class builds upon the next. An introductory class offers an inspiring broad sweep of the work. The following 4 classes consist of a comprehensive and methodical exploration of the seven year developmental cycles that make up a human life. This is done in a collaborative, supportive, and warm virtual environment. Each class ends with a biographical exercise that is artistic in nature. The exercises are designed to help integrate the life cycles presented and offer insight into your personal and unique life story. The exercises require no previous artistic experience. Our final class brings the work together by looking at the relationship of past, present and future and how they weave through our biographies.
This series and my teaching style lend themself to in person learning. Having said that, I am stretching and have designed this series for live zoom interaction. There will be a psychologist who will assistant in managing the zoom room to enable easeful and fluid interactions with myself and each other. To ensure we are not sitting for too long we will have breaks, stand up moments, interactive group rooms and art time. As preparation for each class please create a comfortable, private and ‘enclosed’ environment for yourself that is quiet and uninterrupted. Your mic should be on at all times so that we are able to connect and fully participate without distracting noise in the space. Please have a journal with no lines, drawing paper (11 x 14 or bigger) and colored pencils at hand.

A little background on Kim
California native calling Hawai’i home since 1998.
My interest in human development, the inner life and creativity has truly been a lifelong exploration. Upon completion of a degree in child development in California, I studied abroad at Emerson College, UK, earning a teaching certificate in Waldorf/ Steiner education. After my studies and work with children as a Waldorf elementary school teacher, I turned my compass toward the therapeutic side of the Creative Arts. I completed a post graduate degree in Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy in Melbourne, Australia and received a one-on-one mentorship training in Anthroposophical Biographical Counseling/ Group Work in the UK.
I have been joyfully and successfully running courses on all things creative and therapeutic since 2002. I love teaching human development, guiding groups into biographical explorations, as well as the intimacy and depth of working with clients individually doing Biographical Counseling in person or on zoom.
